Suddenly, the AutoProtect aspect of NAV 2002, which has worked faithfully since I bought my Gateway desktop nearly 4 years ago, will not activate upon startup under Windows XP. If I right-click the NAV icon in the taskbar and select "Enable AutoProtect", the red "X" goes away, and all seems to work normally. I have faithfully tried all the suggestions in Symantec's FAQ which pertain to this problem, to no avail. Suggestions?

Have you been renewing the subscription for the last 4 years? Is your virus definition file up to date?

Usually an uninstall/reinstall will solve this.

Yes, to both questions. This behavior just began last week, after over three years of flawless operation. I can still turn the AutoProtect feature on manually, but fear that my better half will forget to do so.

Also, forgot to mention--uninstall/reinstall is not an option, since I sent the original disk to MacAfee to get a rebate on their AV system for my laptop. Next time, I'll make a copy of it first....

Too bad, I think it's the only solution. Maybe you can pick up a copy on Ebay or something.

Success--I found re-installation software that came with the computer, deleted NAV 2002, reinstalled it, suffered through all the inevitable updates, and now it works as before. Thanks for your help, bygeek!
