hi

i would like to ask if a native vlan mismatch can cause a switchport to shutdown.

It used to on the old 3500s and 2900s. From the 3750/2950 onwards it just generates alerts in the log.

Thanks guy. but i've got a c2960 connected to a 6509 and the port just went down when i checked the logs on the 6509 it reported vlan mismatch. so does that mean the vlan mismitch is not the cause for the port to shutdown

I guess if it's a really old 6500 it might be disabling the port on account of the VLAN mismatch - is that what the log on the 6500 says it is doing?

yes VinceWhirlwind. but i found the problem. the port on the 2960 was faulty. thank you very much for the help.
