Native mode and external trusts

Hi all,
I have a win2k domain running in mixed mode. All servers in the domain are win2k. I am trusting external domains with NT 4.0. I plan on consolidating all domains into one domain. When using the Active directory migration tool, I receive the error that its running in mixed mode. What my question is, is that if I change from mixed mode to native mode. Will my external trusts be affected or worse, not functional?
