Hi !

We are going to upgrade from Seagate Info 7 to Crystal Enterprise 9.

We are running against an Oracle7 database (Server Release 7.3.4.5.0).

Our reports are connected through a native connection.
However, when we migrate the reports to CE9 it seems that we can not do that anymore.
When we make such a connection we get "no items found'.
(using a driver named "Oracle in OraHome92" SQORA32.DLL)

The only connection that seems to be working is :
OLE DB with the driver "Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Oracle" and
ODBC with the driver "Microsoft ODBC for Oracle".

As far as I have heard a native connection is the best way to connect, and therefore I´m very interested to know if it´s possible to have another dll on the machine that works both with CE9 and Oracle7.

Thanks for your help.

Thanks for answering.

What do you mean with "It connects natively" ?

You see when I connect to an Oracle8 database the native connection works fine, but when connecting to a system that runs on an Oracle7 database I get the above problem.

By the way on the server where CE is installed we have an Oracle9 installed.

Hi,
I assume, from the Oracle Home name, that you have an Oracle V9.2 client installed...That client CANNOT connect to a version 7 Oracle database( The release notes indicate that ).

You need to install a version 8i ( 8.1.7) client on the CE server if you need to access V7 Oracle stuff( it will also connect to your V9.2 databases)..There is no other way.
You can have both, but it will be a problem on a server ( instead of a workstation), so uninstall the 9.2 and install the 8.1.7.

Thank you,
I will try that on monday when I´m back to work.

Thanks a lot.

After installing Oracle 8 the native connections works again.

Turk: Do you have a reference to any documentation along these lines?

I need to hit both 7 and 9 databases and want to make sure that this problem is resolved.

Turk: Also, can a 8.X and 9.X client coexist (assuming that the 9 database is using 9 objects that a 8.X client won't support).
