Hi,

I'm trying to set up a dns server and not much of a tcp/ip person. I believe that I have properly configured my dns server file configuration 'ip and hostname'.

Problem: Only able to ping ip address. I can not ping a domain (eg.)mydomain.com which would reside on my server as a host name. I always get server not found. I think it's because the name of the server is on my pc and the ip address resides on my isp's router.

Thinking that because my isp provided me with the info on my ip addresses as :172.x.x.x maps to 205.x.x.x I had to use the 172. numbers on the eth0 config to have internet connection the 205. numbers won't give me internet connection.
My isp tells my that buy being able to pull up my website at my dns ip address, the problems on my side.
I believe that NAT is causing the problem that my server can't be found, as I said before I'm able to ping and ftp to my ip but I cannot ping domain/host. I'm not sure but to me it seems the 205. number on there router must be on my phyisical machine.

just a thought

What is sitting between you and your ISP makes a lot of difference. If it's a Cisco router you can set up NAT to run and take your 172.x.x.x. numbers and nat them over to your public IP's. Now if it's a proxy software you will need to consult the software, most configurations via software will let you nat and have some limited port routing. At this point it is importaint to know what you are using to connect to the internet.....

How do you configure a 3620 cisco router to open port 5631, and 5632 for a remote pcAnywhere to be able to connect to a host using TCP/IP? Thanks!

Are you running an ACL on the router? If so you need to open those ports before the deny statement. Now the question is???? Do you want PCAnywhere available to everyone on the internet or just lock it down to one IP Address? I run PCAnywhere but lock it down to my cable modem IP Address (which is dynamic but has not changed in six months). Works pretty well for this solution.
