Can I use backup exec to backup data to a NAS? Any explenation or documentation as to how to do it? When I right click at the NAS in the network, all I get is a tab with Windows NT 4.9 server as the type. Shouldnt be windows 2003?

Most programs don't recognize Windows versions as Windows 2000, 2003, etc. If you type ver at a command prompt you will notice that Windows 2003 has a version of 5.2.x.x (depending on the service pack installed). Backup exec seems to recognize your device as Windows 2000 (NT 5.0)

When I create a backup and go to the NAS is grayed out(not able to click on it). If I pass the mouse over it, it says "Selection of this item is disable. You are not authorized to access this item, a license key for backup exec remote agent for windows server is not installed on the machine, or the remote agent is old or incompatible". Does this mean that for me to backup to the NAS, I need a backup agent?

I had to install the appropriate agent to get my NAS to backup.

Is it the agent it says (backup exec agent) or a NAS agent...if they exist, or both?

It will be the agent for the OS of the NAS. If your NAS uses Linux, then you will need the agent for that version of Linux. If your NAS uses Windows, you will need the agent for that version of Windows.
