Narrowcaster Issues

I am running Narrowcaster 7.2.1. The application that I am working generates emails based on the user email address (and the security lying underneath in Oracle DB) to produce excel attachments.
Settings:
Segment size = 100
Total emails sent = ~2500
Size of emails = 30KB - 8MB

Of late, I have noticed that some segments time out i.e, it fails to complete the MCISM7.exe process (that formats the reports to excel files). I have to take the pain of identifying the exact segment and rerun them separately.
To avoid the rework, I am performing a workaround of running the NCR service in batches of 800 emails. I am losing a lot of time these days in this dirty process.

Does anyone have any suggestions how to improve the performance of the NCR. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Not an expert here, but does the msism7 has a time out? I think the default is one hour. If you are doing Excel of 8MB in size, with some formatting, and with other job running at the same time, you could go over the 1 hour limit. I would 1) change timeouts to 2 hours; 2)change to only allow 1 concurrent jobs per CPU. The default is running 10 at a time, if you only have 2 CPU this would sometimes serious hurting the performance. Anyway, not an expert here, just some thoughts. Good luck.
 
The MCSISM7 does not have a timeout of its own, not that I know of. The entire Service has a timeout. I have set it to 1 day. Also the # of concurrent segments running parallel is set to 5.

Interestingly the timeout occurs at the later stages of the execution. The service that I run produces about 25 segments in all. I notice this timeout occuring after 15 segments have successfully executed. Out of the remaining, atleast 3-4 timeout.

Its become a hell-a-cious situation...
