Hi,

I just recently bought Solaris 8 x86 and installed it on my machine, but I'm currently running into nameserver problems. I can ping addresses, but cannot connect to any websites using Netscape (although I can connect if I use the IP address). My /etc/resolv.conf has the correct nameserver info. I also heard that the /etc/nsswitch.conf should have the line "hosts: files dns" in it. I've done all this but still cannot get my system to recognize name addresses.

Also, I'm a newbie, so I was wondering if anyone knows any outstanding websites or books I should get to learn Solaris. I do have UNIX experience in Linux and AIX, but new to Solaris. Thanks!!

Richie

Before I have been done it.
/etc/resolv.conf
domain jaring.my
search jaring.myh
nameserver 202.152.1.2

/etc/nsswitch.conf
hosts: dns [NOT FOUND=continue] files

Maybe this configuration can help you
Good Luck

The following files must have the DNS entered in to them. Hosts (tab delimited), resolv.conf (tab delimited), networks(tab delimited), make sure the hostname.hme0 has your machine name in it, nsswitch.conf should have HOSTS: DNS FILES. If you have a hosts.allow and hosts.deny the are also (tab delimited files). If you can not see the tabs in VI at the colon prompt SET LIST this will display all items on the file.
