Hi,
Basically I'm having a problem with my home network suffix (for example all local machines set up with davelobster.com) being the same as an Inet Addr (for example davelobster.com).
On my local machine I have ftp and telnet set up but not a web server. So when I type ftp.davelobster.com I want to get to my local machine. When I type I want to get to the remote Inet site. However, a dig of brings back the local machine IP and I want the remote machine.
I know the simple thing to do is to change the name of my home network, but I want to avid this is possible.
Is it possible to alter my zone file to do something like:
ftp IN CNAME myhost.davelobster.com.
telnet IN CNAME myhost.davelobster.com.
www GO TO SOMEWHERE ELSE (not using 'A ip_address')
I do not know the IP address of the remote site as it can change, so is it possible to point it somewhere else, maybe using a different name server?
Cheers
Dave (sorry about the huge post!)
