Thought I'd give it one more shot, after upgrading from 5.2.28 to 5.3.34 my name order button no longer works. Keyboard comes up, I can type anything I want, hit OK but the order still remains numbered, no name. Any idea what affects this button or anything else I should look at to solve this?

Thanks,
Dave

Are you talking about the "New Order" button that names the tab and fires the order? Where is the number coming from - is it a table number, check number?

This is QS.

When I close a check a new order auto opens.

This is mainly a cashiering environment, but we do do catering, which is when I need to name the orders.

This is not the New Order button, but the 'Name Order' button.

The numbers come from the Check numbers, but before I upgraded I was able to convert that check number into a 'name' in my order queue, now it wont take the name.

Think I got all the questions you guys had.

Thanks for your help!

Went and checked the Term DEBOUT files:

Jun 12, 11:38:09 [1148] BEGIN Run dialog MESSAGEQ
Jun 12, 11:38:14 [1148] SCREEN TOUCH: Default, 10174 "E"; (202,270)
Jun 12, 11:38:15 [1148] SCREEN TOUCH: Default, 10048 "OK "; (320,561)
Jun 12, 11:38:15 [1148] END Run dialog MESSAGEQ
Jun 12, 11:38:15 [1148] Dialog Default destroyed

Seems that MESSAGEQ is not functioning properly

The buttons in quick service are custom built so I can only guess how yours is set.
I would guess your name order button is a script? Make sure it is set up to name the tab and then navigate you to where you want to go from there. (most likely starting a new order)
Since this happened after an upgrade I'm guessing there was a field change that may have caused this. Look at the order entry section of store setting as well as the job codes to make sure you are allowing naming of tabs.

The Name order button is not a script or custom built, but an 'off the shelf' button in the panel editor. Checked both sections you referenced, no relevant fields...

Still seems to me that the system is set to auto-name tabs which would disallow a custom name.

Where is the field set to auto name tabs?

Problem Solved!

On the upgraded version under hardware->terminals->other there is a radio button 'number order at start of order' or 'delay until order is sent.' Name order functionality only works in the delay until order is sent mode.

Thanks for getting me hunting again posrescue!

Update -
Problem not solved. 'Name order' was working this morning after the above option was checked. I tested it myself, orders were given names. It seems as though as soon as real orders were closed w/o names it wouldn't take the name anymore...very strange behavior

Have you checked job code maintenance? There may be a job specific option that must be checked/unchecked to allow for naming tabs.

I hope this is relevant. I use TS, not QS, but am assuming there are certain similarities between the two.

Nothing in Job Code maintenance or Access level in QS that references naming tabs.

2 New interesting peices: My login allows the naming of orders, although (I would sumise) that is because it has all access level items checked

and

I can only name orders directly after a refresh. After an order is entered the orders in the queue are not named...

Sounds more like a bug in this new release than anything else...

OK Finally have a REAL solution.

In QS 5.3.34 you cannot name the open check when the check is in the consolodate mode (i.e. White check). The naming of the orders will only work when the check is BLUE showing each individual line item.

Good work qsrsf!
Note to QS users and programmers. If using naming of checks in QS best practice might be to name the tab before entering items to avoid problems in newer versions. In most cases if you are using a tab custom name and plan leaving it in queue the first info to get is the name...
