I have a slide show with several screens where my jpgs go. Each jpg has the name of the photo and year, and I do not wish to rewrite this information in my .fla. is there a way that the name of each jpg. can be automatically loaded beneath each photo? I don't know how to go about this...thanks

Some confusion! You're loading this slideshow in another main movie, and you would want to have each .jpg's name to appear in sync with the slide show, but in a textfield under the picture but in the main movie, without re-entering the info in either .fla?

Well, I have just bought Flash MX 2004, so my vocabulary might be a bit off--it is VERY different than the previous version I had! But I used the slideshow template that comes with flash and I loaded up my jpg images onto separate screens as Flash does in their template. Each jpg is titled "name, city, year" and instead of REentering this information in a text box below each image, I want to know if it is possible that flash read the name (it is visible in the library, for instance) of each jpg and insert it into a variable text box. is this possible? i have tried to upload the .fla but it will not upload!! ??? is my explanation clear enough?

Not really yet... But I'm still on MX only and will not upgrade at this point and time. So if you're taking about AS2.0 files, I'm out of the game!

What are AS2 files? :0 Oh no! More things to learn! :)

Basically, I want to use the names assigned to the images on my .fla (ie. is there a way to have the name of the jpg show up in a text box?)

thanks for any help!

Surely! But what does... "and I do not wish to rewrite this information in my .fla.", really mean?
Better you should post a link to your .fla, and make sure that it's saved in a MX only format (Use Save As... and change the document type in the Save As... window...) otherwise we, on MX only still, won't be able to open it.

Hi oldnewbie--you are in Montreal also I see.

What I mean by the above is that I already went through each photograph in saving the jpg, and wrote out the title, yeat, etc. in the name. Isn't there a way that this name of the jpg file can be pasted onto my site with each changing slide?

also, i am having a hell of a time with a preloader--this new flash is very very different and some of the principles seem different--or i am just making big errors.

In one forum you wrote that you had uploaded a sample file:

but I cannot find it after searching.... I just want a simple preloader for my first frame....argh
thanks

thanks for that...i have tried to upload and i can...but when i test the file to download, it does not download--why is this? so i sent it to you... it is 2 mo so i hope you can receive it (that it is not too large) let me know if you did not get it.

thanks again!

best

Preloader seems to be somewhat working!

Didn't get your .fla yet, on either address posted?
Was it over 1MB zipped up?

I'm not a Flash Pro by any stretch of the imagination, and I also only use MX, but I think what Disfasia is after is some code that will automatically read the name of a .jpg file and insert it into a text box, or at least a variable. Maybe even automatically removing the extension (.jpg)? I've never heard of this being possible, but ther is a high chance that I am wrong. Disfasia, if you are a native English speaker then please try to use correct grammar in your questions and descriptions, as this will avoid confusion.

Where might you have found errors with my grammar or syntax, Keyper? I do not know the technical term for what I what to do aside from knowing that a variable text box might be the answer, but I do not think grammar is an issue here. And yes, that is what I wrote: that I wish to create a text box to reflect the jpg file name in the text box.

And oldnewbie, I resent you the file in an abbreviated form. I had to dump many images so it would be small enough for you to receive.

Thanks again!

yes, i sent it several times yesterday...i jsut sent them both again (the preloader and the fla of the site). the fla has only three or four images to keep it light...let me know if you don't receiveit...i sent you an empty email so you ought to be able to write me back

peace
