I have installed a 3COM 3C509B network card given it an IP address for our network and have so far been unable to ping anything but the Network IP address 192.168.1.0, the broadcast address 192.168.1.255, and the localhost address 192.168.1.251. The managed network switch though showing a a link light, is not even showing the MAC address of the NIC connected to it. PNP is turned off on the network card. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

are u trying to ping from the OS/2 prompt ... does the ping from another PC on your network to the NAM work?

I cannot ping the NAM from anywhere but the NAM itself. The network switch, a managed switch cannot even ping it though the link light is lit.

probably the subnet ...is the culprit

do you have the NAMIPLite software, that lets u configure/retrieve IP setting from teh NAM ...

did u try using a crossover cable and PC back to back?

You told us what the addresses of the NAM are set to, what are the addresses and subnet mask set to on the computers on your network? When I had an address of 128.128.1.1 and a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 on the PC it would not ping since the NAM address was out of the subnet of the PC's. you can test this by changing the address of one of the PC's to 192.168.1.20 with 255.255.255.0 and then try pinging. if this works then you will have to use IPLite to change the address of the nam to match your network.

I just set the IP using TCPCFG.exe in the OS/2. The Cross-over cable does not work either.

When the MPTS starts up for configuration TCP/IP is greyed out. The help file states that LAPS (LAN Adapters Protocol Support) must first be configured to set TCP/IP. The LAPS executable and associated files are normally located in the C:\IBMCOM directory. They are absent on my machine. Could this be the reason for my problems? Thanks

Andrew

You might have to talk to your OS/2 administrator for help with settin it up, I think you will also need the NAM IPlite software. May need to have a windows computer to run it on though.
