First off, I want thank everyone who started this forum cause with out this forum and the people who actually give information to the unknowing we would be screwed. These days it is very hard to find people who are willing to share knowledge. THANK YOU for helping!

My Story:
=========
One day a person came to my cube and said "the phone system is yours, I am not a technical person so I don't know how it works." Thus now I have the gift to control the phones? Or do I?

A few days later we ran out of mailbox's or voice mailbox's so our vendor sold us a box that hung on the wall. Norstar Meridian NT5B75AJ-93 R0642900 Model 4 Rel 03 02/23/96 s/n 41E18350785. It has a modem card, two serial ports A and B, printer port, two PS2 ports and a floppy drive.

60 days later the password expired on all of the voice mail box's including the greetings, I was in Sacramento at the time and got a call saying that everyone was locked out. I crapped my pants!

So I found your forum and once again Thank you.

MY QUESTION:
============
NAM version is 2.2, can we upgrade to 3.0 or newer in order to get the option to change our 60 day expiring password?

Today:
======
I had another company come out and look at our phone setup, and one of the engineers looked it over and said that because this is an early unit and the switch that the phone system uses, we can not update to a newer version.

Sorry for the lack of information and my weak terminology. If you need more info please ask and I can try and find the answers.

Thank you

yes do tell ...also i think unless you get a used harddrive preloaded with 3.0 you will need to upgrade to 4.1..if so you need to verify hd size and memory i believe its 2 gig and 32 on mem...you will need a keycode from nortel to get from 2.2 to 4.1...you will need a backpack and the software

ski season has started

What is the control unit? Where would it be or connected to?

Thanks again

Did I post in the wrong thread? Should I have posted under Nortel Meridian Systems??

Thank you and exsmogger nice website! Good info..

Still looking up Control unit.. of to nortel site brb...

A R2.2 NAM will be copper so there will be 1 or 2 line cords connecting the NAM to the control unit. A NAM that old will need more RAM and probably a new hard drive, so I would suggest you send it out for upgrading.

Good Advice.. Who should I send it to? The engineer who came out yesterday was saying due to the switch that we are using with the phone system we could not upgrade. Is this true and should I find out what type of switch it is?

If need be and if you do not mind I can give a list of questions to the guys who came out yesterday. They are very nice, and only one of the guys who came out remembers this type of system, so I showed him this forum to get answers to what he could not remember...

Thank you again

Norstar Meridian NT5B75AJ-93 R0642900 Model 4 Rel 03 02/23/96 s/n 41E18350785. Which has a modem card, two serial ports A and B, printer port, two PS2 ports and a floppy drive. This unit only has two phone wires coming out of the modem which go to something labeled VIM. Only other cable that plugs into the unit is a power cable.

I will write down all the models of all the units hanging from the wall I could even shoot some video feed if want to laugh?

There is another unit, the same size as the NAM, that will be your control unit. It should have a card in it with a sticker that will have the software version listed on it. it will say something like DR 2.0 or even R1T1.

Hello and sorry for the delay. Each box has a number in the upper right corner. I assume these are model numbers. If I am looking at the wall and in order from Left to Right the model numbers located on the left hand handside on each unit.

M8X24DS - M12X0 - M0X16 - M0X16 - M0X16 - NAM

Does this help?

Thank you for all the help.

Ok, the M8x24DS is your control unit. Open the door and you should see a card plugged into it, you should see something like DR3 or DR5. Tell us what you see.

Louie Roldan

Thank you Roldan!

I open the door and I find two cards plugged into the control unit. The small card on the left says "DR5" Rel 02 and on the right is a longer card which I believe is a switch, which has a small white sticker that reads Rel 02 E NT5B27GA-93.

Drum roll please for the final answer?

Thank you

Looking at the NAM I noticed that there is only two screws holding the cover on. If I remove these two screws I would think I could look inside to determine which version I have. According to this link I found on this site.

But my main question is since I have a very old DR5 does that mean I can not update the NAM in order to set the expiring voice mail password to zero?

Login to F983. At the first screen press the 9 key and the software version of the NAM will be displayed. Try looking through your docs for a mailbox class-of-service that has a longer expiration interval.

Before we upgraded to this new NAM we had no time limits on our passwords. With our system before the upgrade what device determined the passwords time limit and what device stored the mailbox information? Would this system always need a NAM in order function? What did we have before the so called upgrade? Could it be that we where downgraded in software version but upgraded in capacity??

When I get into work this morning I will get the software version as you have requested. I actually wrote that down in my notebook two weeks ago. I have a bunch of books and I have been reading them but I am not sure which ones apply to this system. Star Talk, Call Pilot, etc, Still learning and trying to understand how the system works.

Thank you for the help...

Is the snow still good in Tahoe? If so I am going sking next weekend...

You should have asked the Tech that was onsite to profile the system and ask for a system quote. Just for the COS change you would have been better off having them change it while they were there. Basic service call charge would be less expensive then new system.

Au I did, that is why the guys came out to look at the phone system.

"I had another company come out and look at our phone setup, and one of the engineers looked it over and said that because this is an early unit and the switch that the phone system uses, we can not update to a newer version."

I was hoping to confirm that this is true since they had not seen one if these systems in a long time.
