From how i understand it , NAM is what allows a caller to dial the name of the person in a menu to reach someone. Is that correct? I would like to add a phone book on the phone display, is that possible? How can I set it up?

we have a Norstar ICS rel 1 T1.
Norstart Voice Mail 2.0

it is called Dial By Name. It should have came with your NAM if you bought it new.

Nam <(~~ this is my real name :)

I only know one guy named Nam who knows so much about NAMS...He's a good guy...It must be you!

I am guessing you work at HLS.

Is it voice mail or is it an addition to voice mail? When I go into our phone system , I get an error inactive feature. Does that mean I dont have it installed?

It comes on a floppy disk with the NAM. You have to add it.

Is there a way I can tell if I have it? I know we have a Applications module, I believe our vm is on it. When I try to go into programming for the fone directory, i get an error feature inactive. Can I activate it somehow? I'd like to add a fone directory users in the office can access.help

The NAM is a voicemail system that is either fiber connected or cross connected to the station ports. The NAM is a module about the size of the MICS cabinet. NAM is not the directory the directory is a funtction of the NAM provided that it is allowed. Check all of your connections but first off make sure that you have a NAM

ddeberry: Thanks for explaining the NAM. CUrrently we have norstart vm 2.0 so I'm assuming at one time we had NAM but it's been upgraded since then. Is there anyway to add a phone book or phone directory for the users in the office. Something they can access on their phones, similiar to what Definity has? THanks again!

There is not a listed directory in any of the Nortel key system voicemails that I'm aware of. Each user can access and use the directory with F980 which will promp them to either enter a mailbox number or they can use the directory by either pressing the # key or using the navigational keys below the display on the M7310/M7324/T7316 sets.

Success is not measured by what you know, but what you can do with what you know.

As was previously mentioned in the thread, yes you can set up the phonebook feature that you want to use. As NamLy555 pointed out it is called Dial By Name. You can call a Nortel vendor if you would like it installed.

BagsNYC, I think the answer to your question is YES. Too bad. This forum has really changed in the past few months.
