Anyone got any ideas on how to troubleshoot a NAM just just stops working? THis guy can run for 1 day or 3 days then it just stops. No AA No VM, F983 reports inactive feature. Unplug and replug the power and all is well again.

This is a fiber based unit V4.0A VM with 8 ports and 16Mb ram video card and NIC. Also, Minuet ACS is installed but not activated.

Thanks in advance.

Does it just stop working, or constantly reboot?
I had one that kept rebooting on it's own for no reason. After many tech support calls, it turns out that i had break the seal and open the unit, which really voids the warranty unless you are specifically told to by tech support to do so, and the 4pin power connector was bad. Changed it to another spare one availible inside, and have not had a problem since. My local supplier suggested this remedy, and they said they would warranty it. Mine was the first one like this from this supplier, but they have had 6 other NAMs, last I checked, with the same problem and resolution.

DON'T DO THIS W/O CHECKING W/ TECH SUPPORT AND/OR YOUR SUPPLIER FIRST. Matthew Masi RCDD

MnMcomm is right....
Power is one area to look at first that is for sure. Also I would do power troubleshooting by changing your source. If it's on a shared UPS move it to another UPS by it's self. It sounds like you are running a NAM 2G. Be sure to do your programming back up and sekur file backup. This simple procedure can can save you money and headaches. Good luck.

phiew that was a lot of typing! But...... the 3g has an amd k6 300/166 processor as per tip - 260 apr 01 where I am going by asking about build date, is the sbc switch settings. There was a short time that they came out set to 300 mhz and they should have been set to 166 mhz. then upgraded to 4.04c. post sept 28 99 ( tip 218 jan 00 )

I beleive salo0920 mentioned he had 16 meg of RAM, so it can't be a 3G. Said it was 4.0a so I think it's a 2G unless it was ugraded. But that is great information on the SBC settings, West Coaster. darnold@americaii.com

As a NAM is basically a computer with some funky boards, I have found that the hard drive motor within the NAM (same goes with a computer system) will start to go, and that's when it starts to lock up.

There are other problems that may be going on inside - an overheating CPU will freeze up a system, a full hard drive (not a lot of room left on voice mail) will also cause some problems with operating. If the Power Supply fan is shot - it could cause an overheating issue.

Only way to tell is to pop it open (check the warranty) and listen to the hard drive and see if it's spinning or getting any power to it. -= Beer is food! Is it suppertime? =-
