NAL -vs- Remote?

I've noticed that XP has some problems with ZEN 4. With Novell client 4.83 and SP2 installed the default Zen 3.2 allows for the DLU, group policies, importing, and remote management to work just fine. Trying to get the NAL part to work so I could push out changes to users desktops I installed Zen 4.00. This caused several things to stop working and didnt give me NAL. I later learned I needed the SP1 for ZEN 4 so installed ZEN 4.1.0.4 and now the NAL works just fine. Forced import seems to work and group policies still work as well as DLU. Everytime I install this configuration however I lose the ability to remote manage the machine.

Question: Is there another patch or some magical ZEN thing I can use to allow me to obtain NAL without losing remote managment when using XP?

I have never seen this issue and just completed a ZFD4 rollout using XP workstations.

One difference is I installed the OS from an image pushed out by ZFD, and auto setup using SYSPREP. In the image I also have the post SP2 updates for Client 4.83sp2

Are you using NAL.EXE (the window) or NALEXPLD.EXE (the desktop folder)?

Im using NALWIN32.EXE for my window. Are you sure your Remote Managment still works after the rollout? And you do have the Zen 4.0.1.4 (sp1) installed? If you've gotten this configuration to work I need to get more info so I can try to replicate it here.

Yes, I run the same version of ZFD4 as you do with the SP at a couple of client sites.

Remote Managment works fine after the rollout.

I also only use NALEXPLD.EXE, I do not use NALWIN32.EXE

Have you install the ZFD agent onto your workstations? Even though you have the Novell client, you still need to install the ZFD agent.

There have been some issues (previous to some of the service packs) with the workstation authenticating to the tree. Even though workstation import may appear to be working fine, the workstation itself needs to authenticate to the tree for some functions to work. You can check this by going to Help-about from the Application launcher window. Press the F2 key, and click on the more button. This will open up the advanced application launcher configuration screen (lots of good info here). In the upper right hand corner, you will see right away whether or not the workstation has attached to the tree.

When you installed the ZFD4 management agents, did you install the remote management components? Also make certain you are running a version of ConsoleOne with the ZFD4 Snapins. You may also want to re-apply the rights to allow you to remote control/view/transfer/etc to the workstations. Use the wizard in Console1 to make this easier on yourself.

The ZFD3.2 components with the client shouldn't be bothering, in fact, they might help you if you are trying to manage the Novell Client with Zen. You will need the ZFD3.2 snapins in CS1 as well. Zen4, no longer gives the ability to manage the client using policies.
