mysqldump problem

Im trying to transfer a database from one server to another using mysqldump. Ive dumped the file on the first server and gzipped it, the problem is when copying it over to the other server it doesnt have enough memory to unzip the file. I have tried to dump the file without compression but for some reason it dies about half way through the ftp transfer.

Any ideas would be gratefully received.
