mysqldump comment delimiter?

I just switched from MySQL 3.23 to 4.0.12. mysqldump now appears to delimit comment lines with '--' rather than '#'. This is fine except when I upload my dump file to my ISP who is running 3.23: I get an error.

I can get around this by editing the dump file but I don't see an option to set the comment delimiter in mysqldump.

I'm new here; apologies if this is a dumb question.

If you're on a Unix-like OS, pipe the commend through sed:

mysqldump dbname tablename | sed 's/^--/#/'
