mysqladmin responds 'Access denied for user:

when logged in as root trying to access mysqladmin

i have uninstalled mysql and reinstalled it, to no avail. Any one save me before i reformatt and reload RH9?
been playing with postnuke web program and i am quessing was that caused the problem

It sounds to me like you set a root password, but you're not using it when running mysqladmin.

Invoking mysqladmin with the "-p" command-line parameter will tell mysqladmin to query you for your password.

Invoking "mysqladmin --help" will give you more information.
