I am planning a small website driven by MySQL. The question is, does my ISP have to have MySQL loaded on the server or is ther eanother way? I have seen some brief info about a MYSQL DLL that can be loaded on the server that does not require a full install, Is this true? Obviously new to mysql and looking for a little direction.

Your website scripts can connect to a database on any computer, however, the ISP's firewall would probably block that sort of traffic.

You'll find that the greater majority of ISP's will provide MySQL support on most packages.

If you're using or purchasing a hosting package that supports .net then i'm sure they'll have MySQL support at no extra charge, thats the beauty of MySQL, its open source so it doesnt cost anything.

If this is your first project then Good luck, i've not worked with vb.net myself, only PHP and ColdFusion ... but the basic principles of all these things is pretty similar.
