OK ... To start with, I am not an expert, so any "answers for dummies" will be very, VERY appreciated.

I am trying to start MySQL on a Mac OS X Server
I install latest version
... But when I try to connect to the DB using the "mysql" command line client I get:

ERROR 2002: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/tmp/mysql.sock' (2)

I also get the message 'mysqld ended' when I try to start up the DB server with the "safe_mysqld" command

If I look into my .err file I see what is happening:

030701 20:25:56 mysqld started
030701 20:25:56 Can't start server: Bind on TCP/IP port: Address already in use
030701 20:25:56 Do you already have another mysqld server running on port: 3306 ?
030701 20:25:56 Aborting
030701 20:25:56 /usr/local/mysql/bin/mysqld: Shutdown Complete
030701 20:25:56 mysqld ended

How can kill the other server? Will that solve the problem??

Whoever expert takes his/her valuable time to answer me: I DO appreciate your kindness (this is driving me nuts)

Thanks
