MYSQL Password Help

I set a MySQL 5.0 configured instance on my machine a few months ago and did nothing with it. I set a password and now I can't remember what it was. Is there a backdoor method getting it. I tried uninstalling the whole thing and setting it back up but when I got to hte password portion it asked me for the current password again.

Also, any recommended interpreters out there. I am just getting setup and starting to learn MySQL.
