Hi, I'm a linux newbie whose been using mysql on windows system for quite a while and is looking to move everything over to linux. I'm running Slackware, 7.1, I believe, on a p2/350 with 192 megs of ram.
When I try to start mysqld, it looks like it tries to start, then immediately ends. The server.err file says "Mysql got signal 11", followed by a bunch of debugging info. The mysql manual didn't provide much information about this error. Also, I've tried with mysql 3.23 that came with my slackware dist, as well as the newest 4.0.9 gamma, from both binaries and a source install to no avail.

Any help would be most appreciated
Thanks,
Greg

From a
man 7 signal

You can see that signal 11 is "Invalid memory reference". Can also be a Segmentation fault.

Maybe a bad compilation, installation or hardware.

Try re-installing a fresh package and check your memory.
