Ha ha, I have just had the joys of installing MySQL (Windows binary) and am slowly getting my head around the admin functions.
My database learning curve has been based wholly upon MS Access, so I'm very excited about the potential improvement in performance that MySQL might bring. Current versions of a particular piece of analysis for one of my clients take more than a minute to process in SPSS and well over 10 minutes in MS Access!
My question is more of a request for some reassurance; I'm considering creating this analysis as part of an application for one of my clients using Excel/VBA, though using a (hopefully invisible) MySQL application in the background for the hard-core data crunching.
Can I be reassured that it will be easy to distribute, install and configure MySQL in a way that requires no intervention from a generally non-IT-literate client? Are there any good articles which may point me in the right direction to swot up on the methods needed?
Any help gratefully received!
