mysqld doesn't look like its actually running.

get a command prompt and type in:
mysqld

If you get a not found error cd into the mysql/bin directory and try again. ______________________________________________________________________

I got in mysql/bin and type in mysqld nothing happens waited few mins and return me back to command prompt.

if i open up winmysql, go to database tab and right click to create database i got "The server must be connected"
mysql usually comes with 2 test databases.. those are not showing up. i tried re-installing it same thing and doesn't event prompt me for admin un/pw again.
somebody told me might be username and password or access error but i don't know where to change those settinggs.

ok i figured...
i had installed mysql b/4 separately b/4 from php triad. so my.ini in windows dir wasn't uninstall and still had wrong wrong dir settings.
i deleted and install php triad again
and everthing is ok

Good news, have fun :) ______________________________________________________________________
