MySQL error : 2006, MySQL server has gone away

Hello,

I am using php+mysql to store big files in a MySQL database as BLOBs.

I am experiencing a problem, and i hope someone here will have
a clue on how to get rid of this.

the error is : 2006, MySQL server has gone away

It happens each time I try to submit an INSERT command in wich a file
in binary form wich is more than 4Mb large ...

I hope someone will have a clue on this ...
