Hello,

I just installed MySQL on a dedicated server, and installed MySQL Control Center on my PC. I am having difficulty connecting to the server via MySQL Control Center. When I try, MySQL Control Center simply shuts down.

Here's exactly what I did:

1) Uploaded and installed MySQL standard version 4.0.16 and MySQL Connector ODBC version 3.51.06 on my dedicated server (Win 2003, Celeron) without problem.

2) Installed MySQL Control Center version 0.9.3 on my PC (Win 98, PII-350) without problem.

3) Opened the MySQL Control Center application on my PC without difficulty.

4) Opened the "Register Server" dialog in MySQL Control Center.

5) Entered my authorization codes on the Register Server dialog.

I tried using IP address and URL for the server host name, but in both cases MySQL Control Center simply shuts down if I either try to "Test" the connection from the Register Server dialog, or utilize the "Connect" command.

I'd be much appreciative of any help anyone can offer.

Thanks very much, Stewart Engelman

Can you connect to the server using the standard command line client that you will find in mysql\bin on windows

mysql -h hostname -u root -p

Hi,

Thanks for your response.

I was unltimately able to solve my problem by creating the necessary user accounts in a standalone GUI.

Thanks anyway for your help.
