Hey guys and gals,
I'm new to MySQL, however, I am being told information by my DBA's which I;m not sure holds true. Can anyone give me some clue on if they are correctly analysing the problem.
We have 2 servers working on a cluser using ndb on Lynux. Recently, over the past 6 weeks, we have had 4-5 faliures of the clusterware, which hasn't happened before. Firstly, we've increased the swapspace on the servers from 4Gb to 12Gb and the RAM is at 8Gb. It was clear that the SWAPSPACE was being 100% utilised most of the time, which we thought was the main culprit.
Given we have had yet another 2 failures of the clusterware but nothing seems out of the ordinary.
Identified Symptoms:
- Missing Heartbeat between Nodes (sometimes shows)
- Error 6000 - Forced node shutdown completed. Initiated by signal 6. Caused by error 6000: 'Error OS signal received(Internal error, programming error or missing error message, please report a bug). Temporary error, restart node'.
We have checked network usage, disk space, memory, swapspace, disk usage etc etc. Nothing seems to be wrong and is well within sensible boundarys.
There is a suggestion, which confuses me, that the 8Gb memory is normally at 98% utilised, however, this runs around this figure all the time, and we only see failures sometimes.
I have heard that MySQL will eat all system resources (well Memory) if it is available, ie if you give it a 1Gb it will use almost 1Gb, if you give it 50Gb it will use almost 50Gb. Is this true?
If you can help in anyway, it will be really appreciated.
Thanks,
Fitz
