MySQL backups

So, I am relatively new to MySQL (I'm used to the EM for SQL Server) and need to either confirm that backups are currently setup and running or setup backups to run on a regular basis. So, how can I check to see if there are backups set to run on my MySQL dbs? For what it's worth, it is running on Debian and I think it is version 4.33?

OK, so the version is 4.1.11-Debian_4sarge2-log
