I'm running mysql administrator on a windows 2000 machine that is backing up a mysql database on our remote host. It's creating a new file each night that it backs up. I really only it to overwrite the last nights files, as I'm then backing those files up to a tape drive.

So I really only need the latest back up file on the server. Is there a way to get mysql administrator to overwite a single file for each back up, rather than appending the date onto the name of the file...or although this is the wrong question for this forum...is there a way to get Windows to auto delete all files in a folder older than a couple of days?

If you untick Tools -> Options -> Administrator -> Backup -> "Add Date/Time to
Backup Files", it will do as it suggests.

To get Windows to delete old files, you would need to write a script using your
favourite scripting language.
