I have a version of MySQL 4.12 which I manage via the old MySQL Control Centre.

I've just installed the latest MySQL onto a different server and I've duely installed the MySQL Administrator 1.0.20 to manage it.

In the new setup I can see the databases and the tables and the Columns.
HOWEVER, in Tables view if I right click on a table name I get the short menu BUT the EDIT DATA option is greyed out.

There does not seem to be any way of editing the data in the table using Administrator whereas I can easily edit data using ControlCentre.
( The Permissions are identical because I transfered the MySQL database from the old instalation to the new )

Any Idea what I'm doing wrong ?

Also - I can't find any way of running an explicit SQL command in this new version whereas in CC it was click on the SQL tool on the toolbar.

I can't believe the 'recommended' Admisinrator is so lacking in basic functionality compared to the depricated CC - so what am I overlooking.

According to the MySQL Administrator help, "Edit Data" launches MySQL Query Browser, where you can edit tables directly, as well as run SQL statements, so you would have to have that installed for "Edit Data" to work.

I have Query Browser installed, and it works fine. However, my Administrator "Edit Data" link is also greyed out for some reason.

Well thats a good start Tony.

I'd thought "Browser" came as part of the "Administrator" download package - must have missread something bigtime.

Downloaded Browser now - so I'll get it installed and give it a try.

Thanks.

I just found a little guy called mydbstudio that seems to work pretty well. It's got it's bugs, but worth keeping an eye on for future versions.
