I've set up a bunch of Postfix servers in the past, but I have these two new Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3 AS servers running Postfix that don't use the "myorigin" parameter for some reason.

mydomain = foo.com
myhostname = mail.foo.com
myorigin = $mydomain

Whenever I send mail out from the command line using either the mail or sendmail command, the mail will be sent as "root@mail.foo.com" instead of "root@foo.com". It uses whatever the hostname of the machine is...not the hostname listed in main.cf. If I run the command "hostname newname.foo.net" and then send mail out, it will go out as "root@newname.foo.net". I've never seen this problem before on any other servers.

Also, I tried addding the "masquerade_domain = foo.com" option but it didn't change anything.

Thanks,
Chris

I know you can fix this with canonical.cf, but it does sound screwy.

Are you using the RPM from Red Hat or did you build it from source? If you are using the TPM then I would erase it and build it from source. It might be a Red Hat only thing.

I was using Red Hat's RPM that came with the distribution. I just uninstalled the RPM and built from source and everything works now with the same configuration. There is definitely something wrong with RH's RPM. I opened a support request with RH two days ago but haven't heard anything back.

Thanks,
Chris

I got it working with the RH RPM, but why its working I have no idea. I uninstalled the version that I installed from source, uninstalled Postfix and Sendmail, and then installed Postfix again via up2date. This time the myorigin parameter works with the same exact configuration as before.
