Hi!

I rebooted my Linuxbox (RedHat 7.1) and, after
starting all daemons/services correctly (I
can watch the messages as usually) and when
before login on Gnome, my screen blinks (strange
lines).

I am able to connect it via Telnet. I started
Xconfigurator, but it's no way.

How can I configure my Xconfiguration?

REgards.

/usr/bin/setup should give you a text based configurator

Sorry for the typo. That should be /usr/sbin/setup but since this should be in your path, just typing setup from anywhere should work.

Hi,

Do you mean you can't run Xconfigurator because xdm (or gdm/kdm) is active and you default to X automatically ? If so try to boot to command line only as follows - when you boot and get the graphical lilo screen do control-x to exit to textmode lilo. Then type 'linux 3' at the boot: prompt (now looks like 'boot:linux 3' - press enter and it should stop at run-level 3 which is console only. Then you should be able to run Xconfigurator quite happily.

The actual error above relates in some way to the X fonts. Nowadays it is normal to have a font server active instead of listing all the directories where the fonts are. This server is xfs (x font server) and runs on port 7100. Make sure that is running with '/sbin/chkconfig --list xfs'. It should say 'on' at runlevel 5 . If it doesn't, do '/sbin/chkconfig --level 2345 xfs on' .

Another config utility you could try is xf86cfg . Its new with version 4.x.x and is graphical but its not that intuitive. You have to right click on the 'graphics' for mouse, monitor, etc and do 'configure'.

Hope this helps
