We had a name conversion about a month ago where we stop using IP addresses and started using DNS names. All is well on the website. Users used to log onto 90.12.252.blah, blah, blah--now they log onto crystal reports\enterprise\blah, blah, blah. The APS name didn't change.

My problem is when I try to log onto the APS from my PC, it used to come right up now it just sits there and I can never log onto the APS.

Before I send this to the "fix-it-now" department, I want to make sure there's nothing I can do on my end. I don't manage the hardware only the application on the server and the server is physically someplace else.

Any ideas anyone could throw around would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Generally speaking, you would replace the IP address with the DNS name. The string "crystal reports\enterprise\blah, blah, blah" looks like the machine name is missing.

I've also had problems with DNS name not matching the machine name, in order to provide 2 levels of abstraction. For example, the current CE server is named BIGBOX2002, resides at IP 190.190.190.190, and is known to DNS as BIGBOX. This allows the hardware to be replaced (BIGBOX2004) and the IP address to be changed without affecting DNS names.

URLs in the browser seem to work with either BIGBOX or BIGBOX2002, but my CE servers are all working with BIGBOX2002.

Let us know if that helps. I don't understand all the interplay between these entities, but this is what shows up on my system.

You might want to take a look at the tech paper on crystal site for "CE 8.5 Firewall Support". It also applies to CE9. Was very helpful in resolving server name issues across firewall. Good explination of interaction of IP adresses amoung the CE servers. Just google to doc name if not familiar with crystal support site.
