I have a Windows 2000 server with 2 NICs. One to connect LAN and other to connect Internet. When I disable the NIC to LAN I can connect to Internet, but when I enable the NIC to LAN the connection with Internet drop. 1st time I had thought that I had a virus, then I've formated the disk and reintall the Win 2000 server. I have DCHP installed working addresses between 10.20.20.2 and 10.20.20.50 and the gateway 10.20.20.1.
I've had this configuration by 2 years and it's have working fine. But suddenly I expirience this problem.

Does anybody know what could be wrong ?

the address for the server is static. ip 10.20.20.1 mask 255.255.255.0
I discovered something, when a disable the internet connection and then enable again, I lose the connection with internet. Then I disable the LAN connection and turn to enable the connection with Internet comes.

thanks,

daxxel,

Matt is right on this one. Windows 2000 can only handle one default gateway - at least configured via the GUI. If you are going to have two NICs, data has to know how to get from one network to the next.

IMHO, if this has been working for two years, you've been quite lucky. I've resolved similar instances where admins assumed that because a DFGW is present for both NICs they can use it, and at some time to be determined by fate, it it stops working.

Installating a static route will fix this issue every time.

I've solved the problem.
I just removed the ip from gateway.
That's it.

Thanks,
