I have MOSS 2007 loaded on a 2003 box. The web applications are setup correctly I think but I'm having trouble getting the "My Site" from the /sites/ to work. It shows my <server> name rather than the domain name. Also I've tried to use the alternate address mapping without any luck. Did I overlook something?

Make sure mysites uses a separate web application and that you have a dns entry pointing to your server for that web application. Here is the document on setting up your ssp and specifying your mysite location:

You should be able to have mysite.mydomain.local and use (with an ssl cert) for publishing.

I have the web application setup already. I can access it locally. It's just that when I hit it through the internet it shows the link as my localhost server.
