Hello,

I have been charged with upgrading my companys sharepoint site from 2.0 to 3.0. I have no manuals to use and have not been put on a course for this so I am 'flying blind' so to speak. So I am seeking quite a bit of advice here.

2.0 is on box A and the new version will be on box B. The 2.0 version uses a sql 2005 database called 'sharepoint' on a sql 2005 server, the new database for 3.0 will be on a separate SQL server.

On top of that I have a test box running 3.0 that will be scrapped, but currently hosts a wiki site that, ideally needs to be made available on the new 3.0 box once it has been installed, to save all the work that has been done on it so far.

I need to bring the new version online, pull across all the content/documents/websites etc from the 2.0, then pull over the wiki on the test box.

I dont really know where to begin or if what I need to do is even possible, has anybody out there done anything similar? If I havent provided enough info, please ask, I will be only too happy to provide more info if need be to get some help on this. FYI Im not permitted to do a side by side gradual upgrade unless it was a stage I could go through to get the required result.

Is it possible to backup and attach the sharepoint database to the new SQL Server and point the new 3.0 to it? How would that affect access to documents uploaded on the 2.0 sharepoint?

Thank you for any help.
D.

I plug you in, dim the lights,
