hi all,

I set up a linux-server. Allthough there is not that
much, it has to do, it slows down by time.

CPU states: 0,0% user, 1,9% system, 0,0% nice, 98,0% idle
Mem: 776708K av, 738956K used, 37752K free, 70948K shrd, 556880K buff
Swap: 268016K av, 2944K used, 265072K free 86752K cached

as shown above, it takes a lot memory for buffer. This takes
effect on the servers performance :(
Is there a way to find out, what for in particular the
buffer is needed? (which pipes, which programs...)

thanks in advance

greetings markus

u might want to check your hard disk speed.. are u using a new hard disk or an old one.. do u have DMA enabled or not.. u might operating in PIO mode, which won't hurt your RAM, but most certainly your processor..

good luck

You might want to be careful with your ide drives and
messing with dma settings too. Unless you like fs
corruption.
man hdparm for your ide drives.

With all that Ram you should be ripping unless you are
under heavy loads..
What are you using the server for?
DB,web, what?
