My screen is pink

a couple weeks ago my screen suddenly turned a shade of pink and the graphics are slightly smudged. every so often ie when i install a program, it turns back to the normal tint. or if i shut my computer off for a while. at first i thought it was the monitor going bad, but it seems that it might be my computer. any help??? thanx

It sounds like there's a loose connection somewhere in the monitor, but first check your video cable. Make sure it's attached to the PC firmly, and then try moving the wire around to see if the picture changes. Also try that on the monitor end of the cable. Sometimes a wire breaks inside the cable.

If that doesn't work -- I'm a network administrator, which will make this sound doubly stupid -- smack the monitor. I've seen monitors come back to life after getting a good whack.

Before "physical repair", I would try a different monitor to find where the problem is.
