Until recently, I had some of my build-in documents and pictore folders redirected to a networkdrive (H), but due to a reinstall of symantec (grrr!), I had to revert back to their original location. This didn't go down well. Long story short, I now have 2 folders in my start menu and 3 under my user folder named "documents" and no "my pictures" folder. The content of the document folders is the same, so it just a shortcut to the real folder, but it's very annoying. Physically, there's 1 folder named documents and no pictures folder.
Is there an easy way to restore the original built-in folders without reinstalling windows?

Real life needs a mucical score.

1. Unless there's some reason you have to use Symantec, why not try a different product? When you say Symantec, that's the company, but what specific product(s) did you install?

2. You need to find what program(s) is/are causing the issues with the folders. Basically, it sounds like they are for some reason creating links/duplicates b/c of the settings for where files get stored... within each program.

3. Once you get that sorted out, you can repair the icons - there are diff methods of doing this, so you can take your pick. There are commands you can run in Windows, which I forget off the top of my head. There's also 3rd party apps that do it for you. For Vista, you can download, install, and run Tweak VI from TotalIdea.com and it has an option for rebuilding/repairing the standard icons.

If you know where your folders are, and you know where you want them to be, can you just copy and paste them in the appropriate locations and give them the correct names? You could then delete any duplicates.

Shell folders like Documents and Pictures have a "Location Tab" accessible via a right-click, offering you the ability to restore them to the default location. Of course you have to find the Pictures folder first of all.

Creating a new user and copying things from your current to new user may be an option.
