Ok heres the scoop. My psu blew out and i powered the system down. I tested the mobo and such and all that seems fine. The optical drives are fine. The 4 hdds however are funny. I have win xp just so you know. The 3 WD 120 gigs wouldnt boot, the maxtor would but on further look makes a touch of noise. I have anotehr WD 120 gig and they all use the same pcb board. They all power up with that board and one of them was able to boot up fine albeit a tad slower. The other 2 are making noise, one a little, one a lot. I have tons of info i dont wanna lose and i am 20 and dont have the funds to spend the 3 grand that drivesavers wants. Does anyone know of any tips that will minimalize problems while these drives are on. I dont know how well they work i just know they make some noise and i turned the system off. Ive read about the freezing method but im not sure that is gonna help (ill probly try it if i have nothing else). Also, i was gonna do a dos cmd tree/f>output.txt, so i can atleast have a file list, but does any one know hte FASTEST way to recover 120 gigs. When i backed up the bad drive that booted with the new motor it took around 3 hrs. I would imagine that freezing it for a day or so wont give me 3 hrs of work time. If i can use norton ghost to just dump the image quickly then great if not i can probably just use the tree/f command to atleast get a list of whats there. Any and all help is appreciated. Also some of you guys do work for the firms that do this. if your willing to help a 20 yr old on a budget (which is to say practically poor) then please contact me.
