I have a erver 2k with 2 NIC. 1 go to a Linksys router Bef41 to joint to workgroup with my other 3 pc. Other NIC connect to a DSL line w/ a fix ip address. This server is not a domain controller. I tried to set up a vpn server. i have manually configure the RRAS to accept a remote VPN dial up via my laptop. I ran into a few problems.
1. if i use a dial up with my laptop, i can connect into my server, but i can't not see my whole network nor the server via My Network Place.
2. if i take my laptop to work, connect it to a dsl line and try to dial to my server, it gives me a "error 721".
3. My server internet connection become very unstable. Most of the time, i have to use the ipconfig/ release and renew command to get online. Otherwise, it can't detect the network setting page.
4. when i was doing a file transfer with my friend via yahoo messenger, there was a message popped up "unble to open port 80, port 81 will be use". and the transfer rate was only 4k/sec. i have tested my download rate, it was 154k/sec. same thing to my friend on other end.
5. I was searching for some instruction of how to map port 1723, but i could not find one.

PLEASE HELP WITH THE VPN PROBLEM, AND GUIDE ME THROUGH THE MAPPING PORT 1723.

The answer to question 1 is netbeui must be installed in order for you to browse the remote network...even if you're authenticated, and registered you will not be able to map drives and access shares until you do this...the "721" error you're recieving is related to the ip or number you're dialing..check to ensure that is correct...this problem isn't specific so additional research may be required (sorry)..your incosistent connection, take that up with isp..to map port 1723 on your router...open the config page 192.168.1.1 go to "advanced" then to "forwarding"...from there enter 1723 in both fields for the service port range, and select tcp enter in the destination ip (your vpn machine) then click apply...also I have heard the linksys does not support protocol 47 (gre), so I donot know if this is possible..I run a vpn server at work but behind a cisco router, and the server has a static address...hope this helps

Thanks you for response to my post.
I did have netbeui install on my server and clients. i will try to map port 1723 as the way you show me. Thank you again.
