My Primary and Backup controllers just don't communicate anymore!

1st noticed after new users were set up on the PDC - users were not 1:active for people to log in under, 2:not synchronizing onto my BDC - definately a problem with the PDC.

I this afternoon have reset both servers to see if this would stop the conflict
Going through the event logs message on the PDC
"The browser has forced an election on network \device\netbt_tcpip_***** because a windows 2000 server (or domain master) browser is started"

This was about the time the BDC started, which too has messages
"The browser was unable to retrieve a list of servers from the browser master PDC on the network \device\netbt_tcpip_ **** the data is the error code
Data: ce 04 00 00 I..."

Any help or pointers appreciated - i am running out of hair!

did you install or uprade a server to w2k server in tyour domain????? and if you did it better of been the pdc first or you are screwed.......
