My old PC ( WinXP pro + Sp3 , Celeron 2.4 Mhz, MSI 6728 mobo) developed a booting issue : it does not boot from a bootable CDR anymore (i.e the same disc boots up from another newer PC without any problem !) .

I intend to reformat the Hard disk but now even the bootable Win XP pro CD disk could not boot from the CD drive ! When I re-start the PC, I see the massage "Press any key to boot from CD.." , I press a key but the PC then just skips straight to load Windows XP Pro up !!
How can I fix this unusual problem . Please help... Thanks

Try a different bootable CD. If that doesn't work, replace the CD-drive.

My previous post is assuming the keypress at the "Press any key to boot from CD is ACTUALLY BEING detected...

Are you using a wirless or USB keyboard?

Freestone & BadBigBen : you are both geniuses !

I did use a wireless keyboard & mouse ! I changed to a USB keyboard and it still did not work ! I used a USB-PS2 adapter for the keyboard and the CD booted up right away .

So the verdict : the Bios in my PC does not support USB & wireless keyboard !!

Hey guys , thanks & much appreciated !

Glad you found it before yanking out the CD/DVD reader...

And FYI: SOME BIOS' need USB keyboard and/or mouse support enabled manually. Maybe if you are ever back in there you can look for that option.
