Hi all,

What kind of controller do I need in order to be able to hook up my old generic IDE 47(win 98) drive onto my new workstation(win 2000). The spec for the workstation so far says it comes with:
Dual−Channel Ultra320 SCSI Controller
Dual−Channel UltraDMA 100 IDE Controller...

My guess is these won't take my old IDE 47. Am I right?

What type of controller do I need?

Thanks,
terra

Sure it will. Your IDE controller on the new board is backwards compatible.

And the new ide controllers are auto sensing, you shouldn't have to set any parameters for the drive. But, if it doesn't seem to function properly you might want to try hard setting them.

Some drive controllers are only backward compatible backward as far as PIO Mode 4, if the drive is PIO Mode 0, 1, 2 or 3 it might not work, no guarantees.

If your drive isn't that old then it shouldn't be an issue.

Good luck!

Thanks,
guys :)

Should be working allright then.

Best,
terra
