after fixing my filesystem and able to boot from my hdisk the system is looking for my nameserver keeps on timing out.i removed the resolv.conf file and created a netsvc.conf with hosts=local, bind in it according to the manual is reads this file instead of the resolv.conf but even doing this it still looks for the nameserver.then i tried running smitty tcpip adding hostname,ip addr, mask, domain, gateway etc. when trying to run this while im in maintenance mode booting off my hdisk0 with the fs mounted it fails with some lib files errors.what am i doing wrong ?where else should i look at or what should i do to solve this problem so that it could read my domain again?ive done evry conceiveable thing i could think of but nothing works.

bad,

<smile> Sounds like you're having fun... </smile>

Could I suggest you start off by not bothering with NIS or DNS for the moment? Or even a default gateway initially. Just try to get TCP running locally.

Then move on to accessing the machine from a host on the same network - then add the gateway etc...

Sounds like you will hit your lib file error at some point in this process. I would imagine this comes from your fs corruption so you will need to correct this before you go any further.

Mike
Mike_Lacey@Cargill.Com
<a href= Cargill's Corporate Web Site
Please don't send me email questions without posting them in Tek-Tips as well. Better yet -- Post the question in Tek-Tips and send me a note saying "Have a look at so-and-so in the thingy forum would you?"

A little question: Have you reinstalled bos.net.client? I guess it's time to do that. And you need hosts=local, nis or hosts=nis, local to use NIS service and /etc/local.I hope it works.

Have you run "ypwhich -m" to see whats in your NIS db? When you do see where you are pointed to in "auto.home" and "auto.master" while you are at this do a " ypcat hosts " to check out your hosts files. I am assuming that you are on the Master server! If anything within the NIS maps looks funky you will then have to rebuild or build your master maps and xfer these maps to your slave servers..

Good luck...

dongax@pacbell.net

ive tried re-installing bos.net.client but cant seem to do it the current oslevel is 4.3.1.0 ,how would reinstall it if im running in maintenance mode there is no option for migration installation only complete or preservation.ive comented out in the inittab not to start nfs and nis services removed the resolv.conf file but it still looks for the domain ? my main thing now is to get the machine up without the networks running but my knowlede of tcp/ip is little still new to this game.once i can get it up then i can clone the current rootvg to my new hdisk thatihave installed and then do an update to new version 433 ,if anyone has ideas please help im really battling with this machine...thanks
