So i'm sitting working at my computer at the day job today, happen to look up and notice the name of my hard drive had been changed. I would have not been so alarmed if it was something like it changed to the name of the other drive I have attached to the box, or some start up glitch, etc.

however it said "I will not forget"

So someone has obviously been in my machine. So i go around the office to the couple people on the network who I thought could have enough knowledge to get and and see if they were playing a joke on me. they say it was not them and from there actions I could probably say that is was not.

So that leaves me with someone from the outside of the office was able to get into my machine? I dont play games with people, I have not done anything to anyone that they would not have to forget. So im confused now.

How would they get in? No sharing was turned on at all. Just connected to the network. No firewall though. Guess I need to start running one.

Any ideas? Thoughts comments on how to prevent this from happening in the future?

Thanks,

The fact that you need to check with others in the office to see if they tampered with your computer means that it is in no way secure, either from a remote or local hack.

If you are concerned about security, you should immediately change all of your passwords, require login at system start and set your computer to automatically logout after a certain period of time so that no one can get at it while you are away from your desk.

No sharing was turned on at all. Just connected to the network.
This is an oxymoron. Even if you do not have services officially established (Apple File Sharing, FTP, HTTP), you are still sharing things.

This might set your mind at ease - - or make you sick to your stomach...
