Every time I restart my Win2k PC my printer prinet a page with one letter only ....

Thankx in advance...

Have you tried to update the driver?

The only info I could find close enough to that is:

HP LaserJet Series Printers - Garbage Characters Print on the First Page of a Print Job or Data Light Flashes after Restarting Windows 95, 98, or Millennium Edition (Me) PCs
ISSUE:

After restarting a PC with Windows 95, Windows 98, or Windows Millennium Edition (Me), any of the following may occur:

A page containing garbled or garbage characters, such as hearts, diamonds, or other meaningless symbols, ejects from the printer.

Garbage characters eject as the first page of the first print job. After the first page prints, no other pages contain garbage characters.

Data light flashes.

WORKAROUND:

The simplest workaround for this issue is to turn the printer off before turning on the computer or restarting Windows. Once Windows has finished loading (when the icons appear on the Windows desktop), turn on the printer. If power cycling the unit does not correct the issue, try using a different or new parallel cable.

WORKAROUND:

WARNING: This Workaround will disable the detection of certain tape backup devices. If using a tape backup device, contact the hardware vendor of the tape backup device for assistance.

Rename the DRVWPPQT.VXD file. Windows 98 will automatically install the DRVWPPQT.VXD driver as part of the Windows 98 backup utility if a PC with Windows 95 was recently upgraded to Windows 98 and Windows 98 backup was installed, or if a previous version of backup was installed prior to upgrading. The file may also be found in Windows Me. The DRVWPPQT.VXD file is used to detect tape backup devices, zip drives, CD-writers, and other units attached to the parallel port. As long as none of these devices is installed on the computer, this file may be renamed to prevent it from loading. Use the steps below to rename the DRVWPPQT.VXD file.

NOTE: These steps may also be used for a computer running Windows 95 that has a copy of backup installed, as long as no tape backup devices are installed on the computer.

Close all open applications, with the exception of Explorer and Systray.

Click Start, Find, and Files or Folders (Windows 95 and 98), or Start, Search, For Files or Folders. (Windows Me)

Type DRVWPPQT.VXD in the Named box.

Verify that the option Include subfolders is checked, and select Find Now.

Highlight the DRVWPPQT.VXDfilename.

Select File, and Rename.

Type DRVWPPQT.OLD, and press ENTER.

Close the Find dialog box. If the printer is turned off, turn it on.

Restart the computer.

WORKAROUND:

Change the parallel port mode setting in the PC’s BIOS. HP recommends either ECP or bidirectional port mode settings; however, other settings may work, as well. For information on changing the parallel port mode on this specific PC, contact the PC hardware manufacturer.

CAUSE:

This problem is usually due to a data signal generated through the PC's parallel port during the computer’s power on self-test, or while restarting Windows 95, Windows 98 or Windows Millennium Edition (Me). In most cases, the data signal being sent determines if a particular device (or type of device) is attached to the parallel port. When the printer receives a string of data that it does not recognize, it will attempt to interpret the data and assign a character for the unrecognized signal. This results in garbage characters or symbols printing on the page.
