My filter preview is lying to me!!!!

Hi,


I'm using the "Cut Out" filter, which has a preview box.
However, the preview is not matching the result which occurs after applying the filter.

The filter preview shows a given section to have say, 4 distinct tones, yet when I apply the filter the said area is a singular, flat tone.

Any ideas as to why this is happening?? I'm in Photoshop 4, if that has anything to do with it?

Thanks, I'm quite puzzled by this misleading preview, so any insights would be great.

I don't really understand your question. Maybe if you took a screen shot of the preview, and showed the result it really gave you, I'd be able to help you.
