The icon for My Documents is broke. I can't left or right click it. All I can do is drag it to the trash. I've tried to delete it and re-add it via desktop preferences. This did not work.

If I create a shortcut of C:\data that works fine, but if I right click drag my documents from the start menu that icon does not work either.

Normally I would brush it off but I've come acroos 2 users with this issue now, so I would like to find a fix. Any help would be great. Thanks in advance

Copy/paste the below into Notepad. Then File, Save as.... Fix_mydocs.reg Note that although it looks like the registry key is word-wrapped, it will copy alright :

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Desktop\NameSpace\{450D8FBA-AD25-11D0-98A8-0800361B1103}]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Desktop\NameSpace\{450D8FBA-AD25-11D0-98A8-0800361B1103}]
@=""
"Removal Message"="@mydocs.dll,-900"

;^^^^^ Leave one blank alone above ^^^^^

I was thinking that one more registry key should be changed. This is the "Hide Enable" flag. So I am going to revise the above with the addition of one more registry key to change:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Desktop\NameSpace\{450D8FBA-AD25-11D0-98A8-0800361B1103}]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Desktop\NameSpace\{450D8FBA-AD25-11D0-98A8-0800361B1103}]
@=""
"Removal Message"="@mydocs.dll,-900"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\HideDesktopIcons\NewStartPanel]
"{450D8FBA-AD25-11D0-98A8-0800361B1103}"=dword:00000000

;^^^^^ Leave one blank alone above ^^^^^

I seem to have the same problem but applying the .reg file did not correct the problem. Any other ideas?

You may experience problems in Windows Explorer or in the Windows shell after you install security update MS06-015

Microsoft Update just killed Windows Explorer

How is life in Safe Mode, or in Normal Mode with a different User?

Can System Restore fix it?
